This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a rural area of Fresno County in California. They are generally from a lower socioeconomic background and have not had the opportunity to have the experiences that others have had. Many of them are English language learners as well. It can be difficult to provide resources and other authentic experiences that can provide them with more knowledge and background information.
Many of my students have limited experiences outside of the home or classroom.
We try to provide as much as we can here at school, so our students can have the same type of advantages and experiences as their counterparts in more economically advantaged areas.
My Project
In the 2020-21 school year, the majority of our students were learning online. While we tried to provide as much authentic reading and writing lessons as possible, we know that many of our students experienced learning loss in the areas of reading comprehension and writing. My incoming 3rd graders will need lots of extra practice and support to learn and regain skills they may have lost.
These journals will help support my students with improving their writing and reading skills.
These journals will help my students that may be missing skills and will help them quickly improve their writing and reading.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
