Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
If you know a four year old, then you know this is an age of constant activity and discovery.
This coming school year, I will be teaching a group of transitional kindergarten students.
This is a brand new program for those students with birthdays in the fall whose parents feel they are not quite ready for traditional kindergarten. I teach in a high poverty area, and my school does not offer a pre-school program. My classroom will be the first experience that this group of four year old students has with school. I have 24 students in the classroom, and it is a challenge to give everyone the individual attention they need. In order to be able to work with small groups or individual students I must provide a way for my other students to work independently.
My Project
With the resources I am requesting, my students will have the opportunity to learn on their own while I help their classmates meet the challenges of kindergarten. I have requested games, manipulative materials, and activities that will be completed by students independently at learning centers. These activities are designed with young learners in mind and are built to be self correcting and fun! Students will remain engaged, and continue learning and accomplishing new things while their teacher is busy with their classmates.
As the single adult managing a room of 24 four year old children, I must use every strategy that I can think of to keep things well organized and running smoothly.
In order to learn, students must be on task. It is very difficult to keep children this age on task without direct adult supervision. Your donation will make it possible for my students to learn, have fun, and develop autonomy. I believe that kindergarten students should LOVE school. Your donations will make this possible!
