My Students
My students are an amazing group of third graders. They are enthusiastic about school and embrace everything we do in class. They love reading, P.E., math, and science. Our school is a kindergarten through eighth-grade school located in rural California. It houses 450 students. Our school is surrounded by forests and mountains and has daily visitors such as geese, turkeys, and deer.
My school had a fire on January 26. I lost my entire classroom to smoke damage. The materials requested in this project are to help my students and I rebuild our classroom and supplies.
My Project
My students need a variety of books and games to practice financial literacy concepts.
I have requested a variety of titles, from the Berenstain Bears to MathStarts. All of these titles have great information about money matters. The focus on saving, giving, adding, spending and bank accounts. They also focus on not having enough and giving to others. These are tough concepts for students and having books that touch upon these connects will be great discussion starters.
With the games like the Allowance Game, students will use the materials in math centers to reinforce math concepts. Students will practice making change, adding, multiplying, budgeting and making wise money decisions.
Through these materials, students will learn financial literacy skills. They will budget, add, manage money and learn to be wise about spending and saving.
