Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Walking into our school, you will find a diverse group of kids. Many of my students are English language learners, which means they are learning how to read, write, and speak English.
Our classroom is in an urban environment, filled with kids from all walks of life.
We are a Title I school, and our whole school gets free breakfast and lunch. I have a few students with troubled homes, which makes me work harder to create an environment where every child feels safe and able to learn the skills necessary to be ready for middle school and beyond.
My Project
Students are currently being asked to learn in a completely new way because of the Corona Virus pandemic. My students lack critical learning skills after being taught virtually for over a year. I need to work on closing the learning gaps that Covid created.
This means I am looking for creative ways to make the content I present to my students memorable and engaging so students are able to gain more than a year of learning this school year.
This digital platform offers videos my students can watch, that will build their background knowledge and help them better understand the Nevada Content Standards being taught to them in reading, math, social studies, and science. As English Language Learners it is critical they see content in a way that helps them better understand the academic vocabulary necessary for success with third-grade curriculum standards. BrainPop Jr. is engaging and breaks down content standards into an easy-to-understand manner in an engaging way.
