Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember what it's like to burst out singing when you hear the right song at the right time or to change your opinion because of something you heard on the radio? My students are experiencing the power of free speech in their dynamic student run radio station but need your help to realize their dreams.
My students come from diverse backgrounds and economic conditions and attend our unique charter high school of the arts and multimedia.
Our school encourages creativity, lifelong learning in the Arts, and excellence in academic pursuits. Many of the students in the Radio Broadcasting program don't fit into various "tracks" that characterize many school systems. The Career technical orientation provided in the Radio program prepares them for internships and jobs in the Entertainment Industry. They meet and interview celebrities and people who are key to making the industry grow. They also put on their own shows with artists at the school and with local bands, whom they promote on the station.
My Project
We are requesting headphones in order for students to work properly in a studio environment, DJ equipment so that students can host shows at school, and a camera to document highlights of the class during the year. Each of these resources will help transform our class and studio into a professional learning environment where students have the tools to learn valuable skills needed in today's entertainment world.
The student run radio station at our school not only transforms the lives of our students but also their families and friends.
Students create shows that relatives around the world listen to. Parents record shows with their children and this brings families closer together. The station reports on school activities daily and has become a vital part of families lives. Students gain a sense of respect for themselves & the community that they serve, which is an experience they will carry with them forever.
