it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am currently in the process of becoming a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT). After 22 years of teaching, I have decided that I would like to further my craft as a teacher. I am currently working on the last component of the NBCT process, and I am asking for personalized, 1:1 support with a professional learning facilitator.
My goal is to become the best teacher I can be for all of my students!
I have students with many different needs, and becoming an NBC teacher will help me strengthen my practice so I can support all of them. I have some students who have learning disabilities, and becoming an NBC teacher will ultimately help me reflect and grow my skills, which will ultimately benefit my students as I think more carefully about what I teach and how I teach it. The NBCT process will give me insight into how to improve my teaching craft while changing my practices in a positive way.
To help me certify, I am asking for 1:1 personalized support with a personal learning facilitator through UCLA NBPTS Project. I will receive 4 hours of virtual support for Component 3 of the NBCT program, which focuses on teaching practices and the learning environment. The 1:1 facilitator and I will discuss and analyze recordings of 2 lessons I have taught, and they will assist me with the written commentary portion of my Component 3 paper, which will describe and reflect on my teaching and interaction with my students. This paper is due by May 18, 2023, and I will meet with the facilitator virtually before then. With this support, I hope to become an NBC teacher, which will help me in supporting my students with learning disabilities, as well as any I might have in the future.
