Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a diverse group of learners that consists of female and male students from diverse cultural and financial backgrounds. I have students with a range of special needs such as Autism, Intellectual Disability, Visual Impairment, Physical Impairment, and ADHD. I also have English Language Learners that need additional instructional support. Overall, my students are eager to learn about Art and I am always seeking ways to improve my practice to make their learning a more successful experience that will impact their lives.

My Project

Over half of the population of students at my school consist of traditionally underrepresented and/or low-income students. Therefore, I want to learn how to better support them and raise their achievement levels by completing the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards process to become a National Board Certified Teacher. The certification process is helping me gain a deep understanding of my students and content knowledge of Art, as I am an Art Teacher. I am also learning how to use data, learn assessment strategies and how to implement them in the classroom, and how to improve my teaching practice. Moreover, I am learning how to participate in learning communities and collaborate with colleagues. Additionally, I am learning how to reflect on my practice and seek continuous learning. My students will benefit from me becoming a National Board Certified Teacher because research shows that students learn more with Board- certified teachers.
