I have the privilege of working with a group of incredible kindergarten students. I feel honored that I get to be their first experience with school and it is my goal to create a classroom that fosters a love of learning.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds.
Some of my students are English Language Learners; others are from military families. I have students in foster care and others that come from single-parent homes. I work hard to build a positive classroom environment which fosters a love of learning, no matter what background the child is coming from. This project will support that learning environment.
My Project
This project will provide my students with a collection of books to help develop the skill of mindfulness. Each day my class practices the skill of being mindful and using our breath to calm ourselves. Becoming mindful is a hard topic and having picture books that discuss this topic will greatly help students.
It is so important to help students learn to regulate their feelings and be present in the moment.
These books will provide the students with strategies to develop this important life long skill. This is particularly important to develop this skill during the pandemic as stress levels are high.
This project will provide a different book each week to help students develop mindfulness. Some of the books include Puppy Mind, What Does it Mean to Be Present and Listening with My Heart.
