Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My project will allow my students to get not only one class set of Spanish books, but two. In addition to the class sets of books, they will be getting a diverse selection of Spanish, English and bilingual books that my students will have access to.

Help my students become bilingual readers by allowing them to see themselves in the books they read.

I want to create a diverse, social justice oriented, and empowering library to help expand their Spanish literature and create connections with their books.

In addition to my students having access to the books, I am excited to be using these books to do read-alouds throughout the year. I noticed that although my students are in 5th grade they do enjoy being read to. My students look forward to a story at the end of the day. This leads to constructive conversations about their lives and the relationships they create with the stories within the books.

They will also be able to practice their Spanish reading and comprehension to help them become bilingual scholars and feel empowered to know more than one language.
