My Students
Our school is comprised of students from many different cultures, backgrounds, and socioeconomic situations. My classroom consists of English language learners ranging from kindergarten through 6th grade. These students enter my classroom every day, eager to learn.
My students always have a smile on their face even when they're faced with a challenge.
They always persevered while completing rigorous tasks and took pride in all of their work. They seem to have a thirst for new knowledge. As their educator, I am excited to introduce to them new topics using a variety of materials.
My Project
It can be challenging to find a book that will appeal to upper elementary students who read at a first grade level. High interest/low reading level books can motivate struggling readers by providing books on topics that their peers are reading, but targeted toward their reading level.
High/low books can help build reading fluency, vocabulary, background knowledge and interest in reading.
With these books, my students will have access to appropriately Lexile leveled books that are of high interest to them. The more books my students have access to, the better readers they will become. These books will expand their knowledge beyond the core academic areas.
