This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am so excited and lucky to spend 180 days with such bright, inquisitive and unique 3rd graders! In the eyes of some, these students are identified as "at-risked" and "impoverished". Although this may be their socioeconomic status, I do not see them this way.

I see them as agents of their own learning and future leaders in their community and this world.

They may not have access to the latest technology and gadgets, but their will to learn and become strong, knowledgeable readers pushes me to be the best role model and teacher that I can be.

98% of our school's students are on free/reduced lunch. We are considered a Title I school, but we are are the greatest Title I school in the UNIVERSE!.

My Project

My students recently started reading historical informational text and they are so excited to learn about important events and time periods in our history!

We are currently studying: The Great Depression, The Attacks on 9/11, The American Revolution, The Civil War, Civil Rights, The Titanic, and so much more!

I would love to provide more resources for my students as we transition into historical fiction text. This is an exciting time in our classroom because students finally get to see how informational text and literature text can come together and create beautiful literature.

They are enjoying reading around a time period or event and comparing across text. These materials will help them become strong and knowledgeable historians who will hopefully use the knowledge gained from figures in history to create their own destiny.
