Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is an elementary school that is one of three Regionally Gifted Centers for English Language Learners in Chicago public schools. Numerous students are bilingual, and many immigrated from various parts of the world. Students at our school are encouraged to embrace each other's diverse backgrounds, as well as to celebrate and foster their own heritage and uniqueness.

All my students are supported and motivated to succeed based on their unique strengths and weaknesses.

An emphasis on the arts, native language, high expectations, and use of technology helps students develop into well-rounded individuals. A variety of before and after-school programs are used to develop these core ideas.

My Project

As we transitioned from remote learning to in-person learning this school year, I know my students might be feeling anxious, uncertain, and unprepared because of what has been going on in the world. They also seem to feel disconnected and depressed at times. As a teacher, I would like to ease students into this new reality that holds many adjustments and unknowns.

My goal is to provide a safe, motivating, as well as beautiful environment that will allow my students to get on the right track and reach their potential.

It would be nice to be able to provide students with visuals, decorations, and supplies that will let us beautify our space. Some students can definitely benefit from additional ESL time so I would like to try more motivational and team-building activities. We are ten weeks into the new school year, and some of us are still struggling to find our place and frame of mind to fit the ever-changing circumstances surrounding the pandemic. Turning around mindsets from fear and failure to success and strength will be a big part of this transition. I would like all my students to experience a feeling of pride, love, and beauty as they enter our classroom.
