Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
True expression is the key to success. My students are in need of a place where they can tell their story and where they will be heard. Coming from neighborhoods with minimal opportunity, my students use the resources of the Talent/Art Class as a place to safely express themselves.
The majority of my students are English Language Learners and Special Needs students.
They are struggling financially and come from neighborhoods full of crime and gang activity. They are high school students, and they are preparing themselves to enter the world as young adults. Our school is a safe zone, full of caring individuals who treat our student body as family. Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding, our ability to purchase materials has been cut tremendously. Many of my students would like to pursue higher education or obtain a career in a field relating to the arts. These materials would allow the students to improve their art-making techniques while expanding their portfolios.
My Project
Having the professional materials to paint and create art will not only boost my students' confidence inside the art classroom, but will inspire the entire student population by beautifying the school environment. My students will learn how to scale their drawings to create large pieces of work and learn how to install canvas into a variety of locations. Students will learn how to work in groups to create a large-scale painting and they will practice the art of thinking conceptually in terms of composition and space. Students will feel proud that their artwork will permanently be on display throughout the school.
Donations to this project will have a huge impact on the entire school community.
Students will feel the support they deserve when receiving the opportunity to use professional materials, create large scale artwork, and display it for the entire school community to see.
