This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

High quality musicianship is built and maintained through experience and, more importantly, active self-reflection. Help our students evaluate and critique their choral accomplishments!

Students in the Carter Lomax Choir are a very diverse group who represent a variety of ethnic backgrounds; our largest percentage of students are Hispanic/Latino.

Lomax Middle School is a Title 1 school, and even with the financial struggles many have to face, our students work hard and care about learning. Our students love to sing and are beginning to see music for what it is: an artistic expression of self.

My Project

Recording our students singing, both in class and at concerts, is paramount to their success in our class. Currently, we have nothing but our phones to record students on. This is a low quality recording, not to mention we are using our personal electronics. We have in the past asked people to bring their electronics to record for us, and send us the video, but have found that often things do not get recorded the way we need them in order to reflect with our students. In addition, we would like to record during class periods and having the equipment in our room will enable us to do this whenever necessary.

With this camcorder and supplies, students will be able to see and hear their performance clearly.

Students will then be able to accurately assess their performance and behavior in concerts, and make changes to improve! Not only is it important that students reflect in order to improve in choir class, but being able to reflect on your actions to better yourself is an extremely useful life skill.
