Our students love music. They are passionate about music and music-making. Music is what keeps them motivated to come to school. They excel in music, despite our school being situated in the midst of five federal housing projects.
Most, if not all, of our students come from homes of highest poverty.
Our school has a 70% highly disadvantaged rate.
Beautiful music comes out of our orchestra room. Our students play with great passion. Music is what they excel at. Our students would never have been able to play in an orchestra were it not for the school orchestra program.
My Project
The new violin bows will make a positive difference in the orchestral music education of our violinists. Our violinists are currently playing with very worn out, broken, and well-used violin bows. The bow is what produces the beautiful tone of the violin. It is like the voice of the instrument. Without a good bow, the tone and the sound will not project, or worse yet, will sound muted and dead.
The new violin bows will help our beautiful violinists to make beautiful sounds on the violin and greatly enhance the sound of our orchestra.
It is recommended to rehair or get new bows at least once a year. Our students practice a lot on their instruments. It shows in the well-used conditions of our bows. Our violinists really need new bows. Rehairing the bows cost just as much or more than the cost of a new replacement bow.
