My Students

I have thirteen middle school student in grades six through eight. My students come to school each day full of energy and ready to learn. They inspire me every day to be a role model and give them my best. This year, we have learned so much and I know that they will continue to amaze me throughout this school year. As an educator, my goal is to provide them with the best education possible; however, the truth is, my students teach me so much more than I could ever hope to teach them.

My Project

I am a special education teacher of students with mild, moderate, and severe disabilities. I teach in a title 1 school and all my student’s come from low socio-economic backgrounds. I am writing to express our need for Language Arts and Math file folder games that will help my students to practice basic reading and math basic skills. My students with significant cognitive disabilities, often require hands-on activities to help them to master their learning goals.

Our classroom is divided into four major areas one of which is designated as an independent workstation, also known as work centers.

These stations allow students to practice learned skills so that they will be able to retain them long term. The stations offer skills ranging from lower level skills such as sorting and matching by color to higher-level reading and math activities. Each student has a picture or written schedule to help the students rotate to the scheduled areas as independently as possible A donation to our classroom would allow me to receive six cases of Lakeshore File Folder Games that will be used for independent stations. The games are self-checking and highly engaging for my students. Each case contains 10 individual file folder games which cover topics such as, numbers and operations, money, vocabulary, and basic reading skills. These games would offer my students help in retaining important skills which have the potential to dramatically increase student outcomes. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope that you will consider donating to this project.
