This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are fun-loving, smart and hardworking! Our students come from all across the city to participate in the unique, ELL (English Language Learner) and ASD program specific for grades 6-8.

My students come together from all different backgrounds to create a positive learning environment, where they will be encouraged to brainstorm, collaborate, and create works of art.

It is truly a unique urban setting.

Students at our middle school take an ​art class for an entire school year as a required elective/specials class and range in different skill levels and abilities.

My Project

My students LOVE showing off their displayed artwork throughout the building and our school has plenty of bulletin boards to use. I try to decorate each of these bulletin boards by theme. Unfortunately, when the school buildings closed last March due to COVID, many of our bulletin board decorations were damaged or the materials were tossed away. Although we have some bulletin board trims and materials, our supply is very limited or missing some parts. One thing I have noticed with my students is how proud they are whenever they see their artwork hung around the school, and love to see the bulletin boards decorated when they arrive back to school in the fall.

This past school year (2020-2021) has been very tough for some of our students and I want to be able to surprise them with more beautiful and professional-looking bulletin boards when they come back to our school this fall and start the 2021-2022 school year positively.

I am hoping that this would help give students a more positive outlook on the school year (and hopefully a school year closer to normalcy). These materials would be beneficial not only to myself​ but other members of the school and could be really useful at our annual end-of-the-year art show in May.
