Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

These first graders are energetic, hardworking, determined students who love coming to school every day! The students live in a high-poverty section of the city and the majority of them receive free breakfast and lunch at school. We have a large population of ESL learners and are increasing our inclusion classroom settings each year.

These students are eager to learn, explore, and be challenged!

Our school is a small, close-knit community where our students are taught to believe in themselves and that anything is possible!

My Project

My first-grade students are beginning a new writing genre unit on informational writing. The students will be researching famous African Americans and writing a chapter book of true facts about their lives and accomplishments. My students have limited updated biographies to use in the classroom and could benefit from new texts with new people for them to learn about. Black History month is in February and I would love for my students to have the opportunity to write and share their biography with the class as a culminating month activity.
