My Students
The word that summarizes our bandroom on a daily basis is 'energy.' Our band program is inspired to achieve new heights in musical excellence. We are a motivated group that persists on the improvement of our performance.
I have an amazing band of Mighty Scots ranging between sixth and eighth grade.
We perform a variety of warm-ups with our instruments. Each warm-up focuses on tone, balance, and blend with themselves and others. Our school has three bands that constantly show growth during every rehearsal. We function under a diverse STEAM magnet school under the Title I Program.
Although we have a high percentage of students who come from low-income families, they continue to strive to do their best. A third of our program currently participates in afterschool activities such as sports, clubs, or academic tutoring.
My Project
If you remember the experience of watching a high school/college football game, you would agree that hearing the drumline was an enjoyable moment for all of the fans. Having two snare drums will provide us the opportunity to make that happen for our middle school! Drumlines teach students how to make a powerful sound by playing together. We will rehearse in the bandroom repeating the cadences until the balance is perfect. This means that we could perform for our athletic events and pep rallies!
Students will learn from this experience that music is a way to express themselves.
This project will also teach our students to respect their equipment and each other. Having snare drums to build our drumline will build a significant amount of self-esteem and pride within our students. By helping our program with donations, it will reassure that anything is possible as long as we work together.
