My Students
Statistics is the field of the future in the age of Big Data. This is going to be my first year teaching AP Statistics, and I need to stock my classroom with materials that will give my students all the support they can get.
Our students come from all over NYC to the South Bronx.
All of our students are African-American or Latino and nearly 100% receive free or reduced lunch. Even with the challenges they face, our students have grit and hope. The AP Statistics class is comprised of Juniors and Seniors who, like all of their peers, are planning on going to college. they have committed to working hard to reach a passing score on the AP exam next May. They have already given up two weeks of their summers to attend an AP Bootcamp so we can start the year off strong. They have shown a dedication and drive to work hard and succeed in the class. Not only are my students showing that they will be able to be successful in the course, they are also showing character strengths that are an emphasis of the school.
My Project
My students, this year and in future years, are going to be working hard and they need study materials to help them be as prepared as possible for the AP exam. The Cartoon Guide will give the students another perspective on the material and the Study Guide and Study Sheet will give them quick references to refer back to. Effective note taking is a major skill that my students need to develop; the 4 colored pens will help them keep their notes organized. Through it all, my students will become critical consumers of Statistics. They will be able to take in the numbers that are all around them and make better sense about what they tell about the world.
Statistics is an incredibly important field of study and success in this course will set my students up for further success as they transition to college.
