This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work with a targeted group of disadvantaged minority students to provide support, guidance, resources, and tutorials to ensure they pass all of their classes to be eligible to attend a university. I want my students to have a positive learning experience.
I truly believe students learn best when: 1) learning activities are fun, engaging, and hands-on and 2) they are rewarded and feel motivated.
The items on my list are to build their STEM fundamentals through a fun-filled game creation. Students will use mathematical and STEM (engineering) concepts such as centrifugal force, rack n pinion gears, and elasticity to create a battleground and then they will be able to battle each other to determine who the STEAM champions are. The snacks and gift cards will be used as prizes for the STEAM champions.
My students CAN do hard things; they just don’t know it…YET. Students need learning opportunities that are challenging while also being engaging and meaningful. Through this experience I hope to foster collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking and perseverance which are all important skills to have, not only in school, but in the real world as well.
