My Project

As a school counselor, teaching emotional regulation is one of my top priorities. The book, Beat, Beat Thump and the drum will enable me to incorporate elements of music therapy into my counseling program. Music is one of my students' favorite coping skills, and I believe this will quickly be a favorite, too.

Students will beat out the pace of their heart on the drum during peaceful moments, after brisk exercise, and again after practicing coping skills and calming techniques to recognize that they are in control of their bodies' physical reactions to emotions.

They can calm themselves and regulate their emotions.

The drum will also be used to write and perform various rhythms and poetry for both individual counseling, group counseling, and classroom lessons. Music is healing.
