This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a mix of diverse learners and general education students. As a school, we're trying to include as many students as possible in the general education environment while still providing instruction in smaller settings. To achieve that, teachers and students are collaborating across environments.

Building responsibility and confidence makes a huge difference for my students.

We have rotations for math and reading to practice different skills and to build independence. It is difficult for my students at the beginning of the year, but by December, they can usually work for a full 30 minutes without teacher intervention during their independent work time.

My Project

My students are passionate about music, and this is part of an ongoing project to bring modern band and modern music to my students. The Akai Professional LPK25 and Akai Professional MPD218 will be used to sequence and organize sounds that students create and sample for performance and recording.

We're going to making direct connections between the revision and publishing process of music and reading, math, and science.

We have some basic experience with beats and keyboards, and having two more controllers will allow me to lead half my class at a time on music related instruction. I see these items as not just an activity based in music, but a way to be directly creative and collaborative. Music is a way my students can connect with each other as equals, and that collaboration can translate to academics.

The USB hub, drum sticks, and holders will support the creation of physical sounds that can be incorporated into our library of loops. My students are so excited about this project!
