This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but the value of actually seeing the real thing is beyond measure. Exposing our students to real life experiences is guaranteed to make a difference in how well our students understand the natural world and our relationship to it.

Ours is a Title I school with a majority Hispanic and African American population.

96% of our students receive free or reduced lunches, but that doesn't begin to describe the true personality of our students. Even though many of our kindergarten students started the year with little or no English and no previous schooling, they have grown in leaps and bounds. Their curiosity and thirst for learning are tremendous. The same can be said for all of our students. Our staff and administration are committed to providing them with every possible opportunity for enrichment, as well as challenging them to reach for the heights. We are richly rewarded measure for measure by their enthusiasm.

My Project

The ZooMobile Outreach Program will provide our students with an exciting interactive opportunity to make connections with real live animals in order to explore animal characteristics and learn how animals meet their basic needs and care for their young. This will be a tremendous asset for the students, enabling them to grasp concepts which might otherwise be especially difficult due to language barriers. The visit will be followed up by a hands on project where our students will incorporate all that they have learned about animals to create a model zoo. Then our parents will be invited to a "Night At The Zoo" presentation where students will share their newfound knowledge.

This program will enable our students to begin and continue the journey of appreciating wildlife and becoming good environmental stewards.

This is a unique opportunity for the students to be exposed to wildlife they might not otherwise encounter. The knowledge and information gained will provide them with a solid foundation on which to build.
