My Students

I am a librarian in a suburban school in Texas. This will be my second year as a librarian, and it is the best job ever! There are about six hundred students from Pre-K to fifth grade at this Title I school. Eighty-five percent of the students are Hispanic and ninety-three percent of our students are economically disadvantaged.

We are proud of how hard the children work and want them to be successful!

Our school's mission is to provide the appropriate tools and strategies to ensure the success of every child.

My Project

We have a new digital tool called Beanstack which allows students to track the books they read and how many minutes they are reading. As the librarian, I have access to reports that allow me to see how many minutes students have logged. This is a great tool to encourage independent reading. Students like the program because it gives them reading badges. I have requested books, awards, and treats so I can reward students who have been doing a good job in Beanstack. I will announce their names on the morning announcements and give them a prize. I love giving books away to our kids! Thank you for helping me promote this literacy initiative!
