My Students
My students are in the Philadelphia School District, but specifically on the West side of the city.
They are interested in everything about food and cooking.
Every day that they walk into the classroom, the first question I hear is are we cooking today? I want the students to be able to see the entire process of a farm to table experience through controlled and guided classroom cooking..
Teaching my students to make soup that is healthy as well as economical will be practical knowledge for their future and I look forward to watching them learn through this experience!
My Project
This project will enable my students to prepare a bean soup and hummus using dried beans, spices, and herbs they grew in our school garden as well as dried in the solar ovens they have to build out of shoe boxes. They will prepare the soup and the hummus using only natural ingredients being mindful of both health and the environment.
The materials needed for this project will go a long way towards giving even more independence to my students by using guided cooking in the classroom.
This project will enable students to feed themselves a healthy meal now and as adults with their families.
