Bean Bags for Sensory and Comfort.

Help me give my students bean bag chairs for a comfy way to decompress after work sessions or while watching BrainPOP or a video lesson. The bean bag chairs give excellent sensory input!

My Students

My students are in a multi-age, Life Skills classroom. Students have mild to severe disabilities. My program focuses on teaching students with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Specific Learning Disability and other health impairments. Students needs vary from integrating a sensory diet into their daily schedule, fine and gross motor activities. Students communicate verbally, through sign and assistive technology. Our district has 62% of its children receiving free or reduced breakfast and lunch.

My goal is teach students to be as independent as possible.

Reading goals often focus on ability to read street and safety signs, menus, maps, store signage, recipes and more. Math goals may focus on telling time, time management, money skills and calculator skills. We teach self-regulation and personal hygiene. We make snacks, meals, learn kitchen safety, learn to wash dishes and do laundry, as needed.

My Project

These new bean bag chairs will replace much older, torn ones. Current ones need to be discarded as they are torn, can't be washed and don't meet fire codes. The tears from wear and tear look terrible, are at risk of losing inner beans and are a distraction to my student with OCD.

The bean bag chairs are an excellent way for students to get sensory input their bodies need.

Students use them individually for reading time, break time or floor work. As a class my students love to use bean bag chairs when watching education videos on BrainPopjr. The bean bag chairs are comfortable and can aid in calming down when over stimulated.
