"The things I want to know are in books; my best friend is the man who'll get me a book I ain't read" - Abraham Lincoln
I want my students to love to read and discover the magic of books. The way to start is to create a positive learning environment where students can relax and enjoy a good book.
My students are coming from all over the county to enroll in our international baccalaureate (project based) program with an emphasis on Chinese immersion.
The students are dedicated and bright, and fully utilize the inquiry based learning. This means that they drive all the learning and as their teacher, I simply sit back and guide them along. We have come a long way from a one room school house model!
My class of 28 fourth graders comes from diverse economic, racial and religious backgrounds, but they share one thing in common: they LOVE to learn.
My Project
Lakeshore's bright beautiful classroom carpet with the map of the United States will help my students have a comfortable place to sit while learning geography. In addition, the bright colored pillows will create an environment students look forward to going to for reading time. Instead of "take out your books and read," the boring way it used to be, it will be "go relax, choose a book you love, and go to a magical new place in your imagination."
This project will help students learn to see reading as an adventure and a relaxing activity, rather than a chore.
This project will help me in my journey to build life long readers.
