My Students

I want to create a comfortable, happy area of my classroom for students to sit and discuss ideas and read quietly.

We are a school of over 500 students, with over 90% free and reduced lunch and over 20 languages.

We serve a wide population of local, immigrant and refugee families who all share the same desire to work hard and do the best that they can. Our school is being rebuilt over a two year period, and we will be staying at our temporary school during this time.

My Project

I use a reading corner during every lesson for the students to sit and read our stories, discuss what they mean, and share ideas that they have. The classroom sofa I inherited is 25 years old and is worn out, and would not work well in our new classroom. Bean bag chairs for the students would allow one team per day to sit on the bags and help to create a boundary for the discussion area, and would help make the new classroom feel more comfortable.

New bean bag chairs will help the students feel more welcome and comfortable while we are staying in an older school and waiting for our home school to be rebuilt.

It will allow us to have a flexible reading space that we will use many times a day to discuss new ideas.
