Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have amazingly resilient students who come from very low socioeconomic backgrounds. For many of my students, school is their safe place; they are excited to come to school and learn how to be a valued member of society. They are gaining confidence, finding their purpose, and treating others with respect and empathy. This year we have implemented restorative practices and circles school wide. I have also been researching and incorporating several Social and Emotional Learning strategies on my own.
My Project
Our classroom transformation is almost complete. Previously we received 6 comfortable rolling chairs that the students earn on a weekly basis and I created benches with padding for a few other students. The optional seating is working so well that I want to incorporate bean bags for less structured comfortable seating. These bean bags will be filled with donated clothing that frequently goes to the students and will be perfect seating for our library area. I have also included earbuds for each student because many of them like to listen to music while completing work.
