My kids love to try out new things each week. Unfortunately, we are in a financially challenged area, and they don't get these opportunities very often.
My school is in a very poor area, and our budget is pretty much non-existent.
I buy a lot of our supplies myself, because I feel so strongly that my kids deserve the chance to try projects that only wealthier school systems presently have access to. We're also lucky to have local donors and the kind souls from DonorsChoose who have helped out.
My Project
My students have seen me wear the necklaces I've created from Sculpey clay and have asked if they could make one of their own. Using the clay to create beads and the cords to string them will teach my kids how to work with a unique form of clay, determine which colors work well together and be able to design something from the heart.
Every year, around the holidays, it breaks my heart listening to my students try to figure out what they can give their moms.
This year, I'd like to give my kids the ability to create their own beads and string them. They will be able to present this special, one-of-a-kind gift to their mothers.
