At our Title I middle school, you would never guess some of our students' many challenges. Despite 10% of our population being homeless and 85% functioning with 3-4 risk factors, our students come through the doors every day with terrific attitudes and work ethic.
I am proud to be part of helping our racially diverse population of students be empowered and successful.
86% of the 7th and 8th graders here are low-income and receive free or reduced lunch, yet they are among the most brilliant middle school students one could meet.
My Project
The experiences of many students have been somewhat limited in recent years due to COVID-related issues. Because of this, our school decided to create a class called "Academy" where each teacher runs their own activity to help supplement our students' experiences. The academy I run is called beaded polyhedra, where students create flat shapes that can then be strung together to create mathematical 3d shapes!
Help me give my students Delica beads so they can create beautiful works of art that they can be proud of.
Our beading club has been amazing so far - but the cheap beads we have been using are a struggle with the precision that these polyhedra require. These supplies would last me the rest of this year AND the entirety of next year.
