My Students

My 21st century learners are eager to read. They want to investigate and learn about the world around them together. The moment it is time to read they are excited.

My fifth graders love to open the magic and READ!

This year I hope to continue to foster building the love of reading and continue to model social emotional learning practices. Here is a little piece from my heart about my class: I have watched my 5th graders investigate, help each other, and give encouragement to their classmates. I am fortunate to be working with students who have good hearts and know how to be kind. Each morning, I stand at the door welcoming my students with a smile. I want them to know I am excited they are here. I want to continue modeling how to be a kind to others and give them tools to help them walk through life.

My Project

My students will be reading Wonder to grow their social emotional capacity and also practice reading skills. In fifth grade we teach how to look for connections. This is the perfect book for students to find themselves inside and learn about people who are different from them. My students will also be learning about multiple perspectives and how to communicate differently when they do not agree with a different perspective.

I want my students to see themselves inside Wonder and see how making a difference can change the world.

Reading Wonder will give my students to the chance to dig deep and work on inferencing skills. When using a high interest text, students have a greater chance of creating connections.
