Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I'm working as an intervention teacher so these kids have to do both online classes with their regular teacher and then show up for group sessions with me. My 28 6th graders come from low-income families. The majority of them live in multi-family homes. Most of them have a hard time finding a quiet place to do online meets. They still show up to my class excited and ready to learn.

My Project

These gift cards will be used as prizes to award students who are present and actively engaged in the lessons. It will lessen the burden of them having to show up to an extra class because they need help on their fluency. I believe in compensation for hard work or hard work pays off. I usually have some sort of reward for my students whether it is a class party or extra recess, but with remote instruction it makes it difficult. Since that isn't an option these gift cards are something that can use to have weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly contests, which will motivate them to try harder, ask for help, and be engaged in their learning.
