This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Growing up as a Girl Scout camper and staff person at summer camps, our motto was “Be prepared”. In this day and age, it is more important than ever to follow this sage advice and plan accordingly for any situation that may arise. Our school has a safety plan in place, we have practice drills regularly, and every teacher has basic supplies.

Our request is for supplemental items that will help meet essential needs, should our students ever have to take actions to shelter in place or endure a lockdown situation.

I created an Emergency Kit a few years ago with individual care packages for each student that include water, snacks, a whistle, and a flashlight. All items are stored in a large bin, along with toilet necessities, should the ‘call of nature’ arise. These basics helped us get started on our journey to be prepared.

Continuing this journey, it is time to restock supplies and improve our Emergency Kit. I am requesting hand sanitizer to restock our classroom and continue teaching my students the importance of good personal hygiene habits. I am also requesting backpacks to use for student care packages, and pop up pods to use for privacy for our emergency toilets.
