Help me give my students costume pieces to help their characters come to life on the stage. Especially with their wigs. This will complete their individual looks.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I school with amazing kids who are excited about school and want to learn. They are inquisitive and creative kids. They come from low-income families who deserve to have amazing wonderful things just for them to help them learn whether they are in our school for a year, a week, or even one day.
These wonderful and amazing kids need costumes for their production of Beauty and the Beast this year.
Our students love the theatre and love acting, singing, and dancing. They would come alive on stage with the perfect costumes. Last year, we added simple feathers to Vlad in Seussical and WOW! What a difference it made in that student with how she portrayed that character. Vlad came to life right before our eyes! I want this same experience for our students this year as well.
My Project
Have you ever read a book and been taken away to a new place or feel like the character you were reading about? Costumes do this for those who chose to brave the stage and perform for others.
The costumes will allow our students the opportunity to be taken not just to another place, but take their audience with them as they perform for their community, friends, family, and school.
Performing arts allows these students the opportunity to grow as they learn to work as a team and how to depend on each other.
Theatre provides the opportunity to learn how to speak in public, overcome shyness, develop creativity, and in the case of our students learn how to do a little dancing. Because of the time period, they will learn a little waltzing for this show. As the wigs show, the waltz is appropriate for this. Even in the song "Human Again" it talks about the characters waltzing. There is so much to be gained through theatre.
