Help me give my students tools to complete energy audits in buildings around the district. One of the goals of our energy class is to find ways to be more energy efficient at school and at home.
The Energy Pathway had its first year and it was quite a learning experience. We were fortunate to be able to borrow the tools that are listed in the cart from Kansas State University's energy program, but we did have to return them so other programs can also use the tools. What is in our cart would be a classroom set for 6 groups to be able to collect data more efficiently and quickly.
My plan for the future of this program is to use the tools to complete energy audits to look at more buildings than just the high school to see how we can make our school district more energy efficient.
We have several elementary schools, the middle school, and the board office that could also use an energy audit. The students also get practice at communicating with teachers, whose rooms they have to invade, and they have to present their findings to those that are affected. What the students also got practice at was time-management (scheduling times to take measurements) and problem-solving.
