From the moment the boxes arrived, students were eager to dive in—organizing materials, restocking our supply stations, and immediately putting scissors, glue, and tape to use. These tools are now a regular part of interactive notebooks, collaborative posters, and project-based activities that help reinforce key concepts while allowing students to think creatively and work together.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful changes has been the confidence and independence students show during class. Instead of waiting for shared materials or worrying about supplies running out, students can focus fully on learning. Simple items like tissues have also made a big impact by helping keep our classroom comfortable and welcoming, especially during allergy season, allowing students to stay engaged and healthy throughout the day.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped create an environment where creativity and participation are part of everyday learning. As we continue working through upcoming lessons and hands-on projects, these supplies will be used across multiple activities to support organization, collaboration, and creative expression. Thank you for investing in my students and giving them the tools they need to succeed all year long—we truly couldn't do this without you.","fullyFundedDate":1759248676197,"projectUrl":"project/supplies-for-success-fueling-creativity/9474353/","projectTitle":"Supplies for Success: Fueling Creativity All Year Long","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gilmore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9122416_orig.jpg?crop=389,389,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752765499200","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9122416"},{"teacherId":426149,"projectId":9429074,"letterContent":"In Introduction to Environmental Science we wanted to look at the different amounts of energy that different items use, and come up with ways to be more aware of how much energy we are using versus what we actually should be using. The activity required students to use the watt meters to measure different electrical appliances' total energy consumption. The watt meters told them the wattage being used, and then the students needed to estimate how much time the item would be in use, to get the daily energy consumed. The items they looked at were charging cords with a device plugged in, charging cords without a device plugged, projectors, teacher's PC and monitors, lamps, hot glue guns, microscopes, and microwaves.\r\n\r\nThe students were excited to do a lab where they got to actually use hands-on materials. Because of time, space, and money; sometimes labs have to be more paper based or case studies. The meters allowed the students to actually manipulate the tools and problem solve how to understand what the meters were telling them.\r\n\r\nNext semester, in the Introduction to Energy class, those students will be using the tools to do an energy audit of the building. We are partnered with Kansas State University's K-12 Energy Benchmarking Workshop to make this audit successful and organized.","fullyFundedDate":1758035576896,"projectUrl":"project/be-more-energy-efficient/9429074/","projectTitle":"Be More Energy Efficient","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hofmeier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp426149_orig.png?crop=285,285,x0,y11&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758466465029","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/426149"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_56779","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":685,"numTeachers":50,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":83,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":50.0,"schoolId":56779,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Ottawa High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Ottawa High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kansas/ottawa-unified-school-district-290/ottawa-high-school/56779"}
