My students are hardworking and excited about learning! I teach second grade in a low income district with a large number of English Language Learners. More than half of my class is made of up English Language Learners.
Through literature I teach my students good character and instill a love of reading!
My goal each year is to teach my students the power of kindness and the power of reading. A classroom library filled with positive character building books is the foundation for making this goal attainable.
My Project
It is incredibly important to begin the school year with positive strong behavior management and character building lessons. I strive to create a positive classroom environment with clear classroom expectations from day one.
I have learned that one of the most powerful ways to create a positive classroom environment is through strong literature.
My students are able to understand classroom expectations more clearly through read-alouds. They begin to relate to characters in stories and the characters' experiences. Not only do read-alouds help to create a positive environment, they also help to instill a love of reading from day one in my classroom.
My students love to be read aloud to and beg me to share new and exciting books! The books I have chosen are wonderful stories that build strong character, create a sense of connection between student and character, and help instill a love of reading! Kindness and reading are what can change the world!
