My Students

As a school counselor, I have the privilege of working with about 500 students in grades 4K-5. I work with students through classroom guidance lessons, small groups, and individually.

We are a Title I school with over 80% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch.

Students are excited to learn and engage in class activities. We have been working on growth mindset and mindfulness for a couple years and I have seen the positive difference it has made in the way students interact with others and the effort they put in their work. I would love to have more activities to use as I continue teaching and reinforcing these concepts with students.

My Project

Notice a thought, feeling or sensation.. Allow it to be there for a moment.. Let it go... This mindful moment is one practiced with my students that helps them to recognize the uncomfortable feelings we all experience from time to time, and then let it go. Sometimes the "let it go" part can be a challenge for young students overwhelmed with strong emotions, and mindfulness is here to help with that. The resources I am asking for, including Mindfulness Therapy Games, 101 Mindful Arts-Based Activities to Get Children and Adolescents Talking, and Mindful Kids, will be valuable resources as I continue teaching the awesome life skill that is mindfulness! Studies find that youth benefit from learning mindfulness in terms of improved cognitive outcomes, social-emotional skills, and well-being.

The 52 Essential Conversations Card Game and The Resilience Workbook will be utilized in small groups, class lessons and individual sessions to cultivate a growth mindset, resilience and positive coping skills. The activities in this project will have a profound impact on my students thoughts and behaviors and ultimately their success in school and life.
