Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As the only teacher in my school with a dedicated calming corner, I’ve witnessed how meaningful this space can be for students who are navigating big emotions, stress, or tough days. It brings me so much joy to offer a safe environment where students can take a moment to reset and feel supported.
But my goal doesn’t stop with just one classroom — I want to model for my fellow educators how impactful social-emotional learning (SEL) tools can be at any age.
With the right resources, a calming corner becomes a space where emotional growth, confidence, and self-regulation are nurtured daily.
Some of the resources I’m requesting, like motivational stamps, stickers, and wall art, may seem small, but they have a big impact. A simple stamp on a student’s work can spark pride and help build their confidence, especially when they’ve overcome a challenge. Other items, like sensory tools, visuals, and mindfulness activities, help students refocus and feel empowered to continue learning after emotional moments.
