My students are growing, learning and making lifelong friends in a small community within a great little school. They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, questioners and hard workers. They come into the room each morning with excitement on their faces and eager to learn new innovative things.
Our Pre-K through 12 school has an average class size of 12.
This community is comprised mainly of farmers and ranchers. Our location is very secluded. We have very few academic resources available. Traveling is required for day-to-day needs such as groceries, gas, clothing, and so on.
Students are faced with many challenges each day. The majority of the students come from poverty and/or single parent homes. Although this is a low socioeconomic community, it is very family oriented and close-knit. We feel that our students deserve the same quality education and resources needed to maximize learning as students at other schools that are not faced with the same economic challenges.
My Project
STEAM includes Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Unfortunately with state wide budget cuts, our supplies are limited, which also limits their creativity, and exposure to new mediums, which include a variety of paint, crayons, masks, block printing ink, pipettes, drawing pencils, plastic needles, rubbing plates, and some sea life & fish to design. Besides helping with fine motor skills, what students are taught in art spills over into other subjects, including patterns and colors helping in math making patterns, creating symmetrical snowflake and fish designs, cross-categorical help with deeper thinking to social studies designing masks and robots, STEAM projects combining science and art. It is a WIN for everyone! We welcome these various creative resources to give us the opportunity to have more challenging skills and "hands-on" activities for our students.
Preparing our girls and boys to be creative and think "outside-the-box" designing masks, robots, ocean life, snowflakes and even a self portrait, for a world full of new technology is a big part of their early school career that connects to STEAM.
By donating to this project, you will be supporting boys and girls by giving additional technology to all of our students. You will help make a difference because neither the school nor I have more funds to purchase these additional resources for our students. Your donation will make this happen in our classroom! We are always looking for ways to get students to be engaged and CREATIVE!
