This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year I will be teaching students with special needs and they are new to our school. To help my students feel comfortable in their new learning environment, I want to demonstrate compassion and kindness by providing what my students need. As their teacher, it is important to me that I set the example first. As a result, they will demonstrate compassion and kindness towards each other.
Demonstrating compassion and kindness begins with me seeing a need that my students have and doing something about it.
Such as providing a snack when they are hungry before lunch. Sometimes middle school students do not eat breakfast and they become hungry before lunch and these hunger pains will hinder their learning. To help my student self-regulate their emotions, I will give them fidgets because most students have some type of anxiety especially coming to a new school and having new peers and new teachers. This can provide a challenge for anyone. Having a fidget can increase focus and attention and it can also be used as a stress management tool. The classroom stamps will help to give my student immediate feedback for their work. This will help to increase work productivity because we all enjoy instant positive feedback. When students are treated with compassion and kindness, they will demonstrate compassion and kindness to others inside the classroom and outside of the classroom.
