This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Hi! I teach at a Title I school in HHI, SC. This means that over 40% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. I am the new "STEM" teacher and teach about 700 students.
Many of my students are in need of learning experiences that bring joy and education to their lives.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. As a creative thinker, many of my projects are hands-on and students are using all sorts of skills to engineer. I currently do STEM Stations during my classes and would love to add a robotics station. Technology and coding are our future, the students will be able to explore the science of coding with these robots. The bee bots will be a perfect introduction to coding for the younger students. They will be able to engineer mazes with manipulatives and then program the bee bots to navigate through the maze. The older students will be able to code the dash robots to draw, navigate obstacles, and respond to their voices.
This specific project will give opportunity to many students who would not be able to explore computer science outside of school. I think it is imperative to provide students with the resources they need to succeed.
