Be a Scientist Through Literature

My students need science literature to supplement our third grade science curriculum. We have wonderful science kits that encourage hands-on learning, but my students are always wanting to learn more about the subject. Having a classroom science library would help increase the students' interest and allow them to research these topics in greater depth.

Be a scientist through literature!! I teach a self-contained third grade class in South Carolina. My class consists of 19 bright students who are always looking to research topics in greater depth, especially in science.

Every year, I watch as my students show an amazing curiosity for science. They enjoy exploring through inquiry based science kits, but still have an on-going interest in learning more about the topic. They are constantly checking out nonfiction books from the library that relate to our science units. Although the students can find some books relating to our science units, most are hard to come by. Having a science classroom library would bring learning right to their fingertips.

In order to help satisfy my students' hunger for learning science, I need great science literature that covers the topics we learn in third grade. By having such literature, my students will not only learn valuable research skills, but their love for science and reading will both be strengthened.

By funding this proposal, you will make it possible for the students to continue their love for science and encourage independent learning right in the classroom!
