I am requesting materials to set up a classroom store so my students can have a first hand experience making change. I teach at a small rural school. I provide Math and Science instruction for two groups of second graders from low economic backgrounds. I need items that the children can actually buy and keep to make this a more meaningful experience. I am requesting play money(coins), pencils, small writing tablets, mechanical pencils, crayons, magic markers, candy ,and small prizes. I need enough of supplies so all of my students can shop at the store. I want my children to have this experience because the money they have to spend is very limited. Making change is one of the South Carolina Second Grade Standards for the P.A.C.T test that each child will take in May. Please help me provide my students with a real life experience while teaching them to count money.
