This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is nestled in a small rural community, which was once surrounded by bustling mills. Now, with many of them closed, our families often struggle to find employment and opportunity. Our families lack the funds to provide experiences for the students.
My goal is to expose students to the experiences that will open their eyes to the world.
I want them to understand what opportunities education can bring them. STEM careers will explode in the future and I want my students to be ready!
My Project
My students will love these headphones and use them daily! We often do virtual labs when a hands-on activity would be impractical. For example, when we study Newton's Laws, we can make virtual roller coasters to demonstrate real-world applications.
The students also use sites such as Flocabulary, Study Jams, or BrainPop.
These sites allow students to obtain big concepts and difficult vocabulary in kid-friendly ways. Further, they can individualize their learning when they use these sites. Students who need to repeat the lessons may do so at their own pace without being embarrassed or calling attention to themselves. They really enjoy the computer lessons!
