Studies have shown that learning to play a musical instrument helps students do better in school, teaches them discipline, relieves stress, and gives them a sense of achievement. Unfortunately, most students do not have an opportunity to learn a musical instrument in school due to budget concerns.
My students are sixth through eighth graders at an urban middle school.
They are very enthusiastic learners, and many of them are working toward attending specialty high schools for the arts. They are a very diverse group, collectively speaking over 30 different languages!
As a classroom general music teacher, I do whatever I can to help expose my students to music in all its varied forms. However, with extremely limited funds, our opportunities for hands-on music making are few and far between. Your donations can help us purchase beginner guitars for all students to use in the classroom, perhaps even inspiring them to continue their studies outside of school.
With so many budget cuts, music is one of the few expressive arts/extracurricular activities my students have left.
Please help me to expand their horizons and their minds with guitars.
