Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a group of low-income students who are excited to learn about the wider world outside of their often insular neighborhood. 100% of my students are students of color (primarily Latinx-Mexican), who are old enough, and aware enough, to know they live in a country that often does not give them the same opportunities as other adolescents.

My students are eager to grow into the kind of leaders they have learned about in school.

They need the resources to do so!

My Project

I teach 8th grade Social Studies and English Language Arts, and I want to help my students engage with their education on a deeper level. To this end, I have designed a yearlong theme for my classroom entitled, "Rebels and Revolution." My goal is to teach my students about people in history who have refused to accept the status quo, such as George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Frederick Douglass, or John Lewis. I also want to inspire them with famous works of fiction, such as the Giver, Animal Farm, and Harry Potter.

Inspiration drives education.

I want to be able to inspire my students to not only work towards their own education, but also to dream of a brighter future for themselves as individuals.
