Our school is a small rural, high poverty, 4K-12 school in Northeast Wisconsin. We have about 250 students in 4K-12 and our school is over 60% free and reduced lunch. Our students have limited internet access in the rural and remote areas of our district. We are a Title 1 school-wide district with high poverty and a low student population.
Our students love to read, play games, and work together.
We have high achievement scores in reading and language arts, but we are looking at strategies to motivate our student to learn math and STEM activities.
My Project
Our school is excited to implement Makerspaces in the library after read aloud and book checkout times. These items will encourage students to build creatively, code with the beginnings of computer science, and get hands-on experience with robotics. These Makerspaces get students excited to learn and are an extension to make the curriculum come alive! Students will learn beginning computer programming, building and programing robots, and creating vehicles, all of which are great science, technology, engineering, and math skills.
Also in the library, students need a new rug for story time with Mr. Czahor!
My old tethered rug is a twice a hand me down and is coming unwoven. Students love the variety of authors and books I share with them and that motivates them to try different books in our 4k-12 library. Students will will learn about new authors and genres and get excited to check out books from our library.
